If you are based in New South Wales, you will also need a NSW Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (FSS) as well as your Food Safety Supervisor Statement of Attainment. InstaCert is approved to issue NSW FSS Certificates, so be sure to select this option during checkout, if required.

Case Studies
There are two case studies to complete in this course (five in NSW, see below for further information). The purpose of these is to check that you can apply what you've learnt to a real-life situation. Simply read the text and answer a series of multiple choice questions about the best way to handle the scenarios.
Reading Activities
There is a reading activity on potentially hazardous foods. Simply download the PDF from the course page and then complete the multiple choice quiz.
NSW Only:
In 2015, the NSW Food Authority announced some additional requirements for NSW Food Safety Supervisor training. Currently there are four key focus areas determined by the Food Authority - allergen management, safe egg handling, cleaning and sanitising practices, and Food Act offences. If you are seeking a NSW FSS certificate you must complete the four key focus areas.
Observer Report / Declaration
Since there are some things we can't see you doing through your computer, such as washing your hands, an Observer Report is required. This is a simple form that you ask someone you've worked with (past or present) to complete about tasks they've seen you doing. The form can be completed online or downloaded and filled out manually.
Quality Assurance Process
As part of our quality assurance process, we reserve the right to contact you or your nominated observer to conduct a competency conversation or verification of assessment prior to awarding certification.
InstaCert's Food Safety Supervisor course covers a number of food industry sectors. When you enrol, the industry you select will determine which Observer Report is issued and what units of competency are displayed on your Statement of Attainment.
Each state and territory has different regulations about which industries are accepted. Guidance will be provided on how to select the best industry for you when you begin the course.

FAQs
The duration of the course depends on your existing knowledge of food safety and your English-language ability.
On average, most people complete the lessons and associated quizzes in about 6 to 8 hours.
The other parts of the assessment can take anywhere between 10 minutes to 4 hours depending on who you choose to complete your Observer Report and whether you need any extra assistance with the course content.
It's not unusual for students to sign up and complete the course on the same day, but we do give you up to 12 months to complete everything.
It's important to remember that the course has been designed to be completed at your own pace, so you don't need to complete the course in one sitting — you can log on and log off as many times as you need.
The course content delivered by InstaCert is determined by the Industry Skills Councils, who also provide rules about how training organisations need to assess students training to be a Food Safety Supervisor.
One of the rules is that students need to be observed practising food safety skills. With online training, there are some skills we can't see you doing through a computer. So, the easiest way to meet this requirement is to provide you with an Observer Report and you can ask someone in your workplace to confirm that they have seen you do things like washing your hands correctly and wearing appropriate clothing for work.
1. A modern web browser
You need to have a modern web browser and ensure that you have Javascript enabled.
2. An email address
During course registration, we will ask you for your email address. This is a mandatory requirement for you to be able to access our systems. Email addresses cannot be shared by students.
3. Adobe PDF Reader or Adobe Acrobat
Some of the forms that you need to complete (such as the Observer Report) are in PDF format. To get the latest version of Adobe PDF Reader for free, click here.
InstaCert courses work on most computers, laptops and tablet devices. However, due to the small screen size, we don't recommend using the course on mobile phones.
In order to complete this course you should be able to perform everyday tasks such as:
- using an instant messenger tool
- using email at work
- responding to customer complaints
- following a recipe
